| Hi if anyone is online I just got two new baby girls and I am really worried about one of them - I tried to call the breeder who sold them to me but she is at a funeral - the vet reccomended I just wait it out but I am so worked up - help help - she is so lethargic she cant even pull her nails free from the fleece with each step into the pouch - I am really worried! Please send me a PM if you have any suggestions - I gave her some HPW and some water - she is so scared I am afraid that she is deyhdrated or that she is just overwhelmed by all the change and scared to death, I know that stress can kill a glider - so I am so worried Thanks, April | |

| Here is my PM to you....
April warm some fleece and wrap her in it or put her in your bra to get/keep her warm. Warmth and hydration is the best thing for her right now. I would not ask the vet to bring her in I would tell them you are bringing her in. Waiting till she gets worst is a bad idea. 2 hours of travel is not something that will make them sick, in my opinion there is some under laying problem. Have them run a fecal and urine test and if needed SQ fluids. If you do not go now then if she gets worst tonight you may not have a vet avalible to bring her to. If they say they can not see her then just show up in there office and tell them she is worst.
Better safe then sorry.

| April keep her warm, get fluids in her and get her to a vet. Being that weak is not something I would prefer to "wait out" | |

| Sorry I missed your pm, I was on the way to pick up Jacob from school. The vet advice was the best, just to be safe. Chances are she was frozen with fear (where they don't move or blink) but could be lethargic. No need risking it and I am glad you have gone to the vet. Keep us updated. | |

| Hey all its now almost 6pm just got home from the vet and got Marilyn settled in - here is the scoop - Marilyn was indeed dehydrated- she has diahrea and is very weak - she currently only weighs 53 grams - so she is also very underweight as well which is a concern - I am so grateful to those of you who responded so quickly and backed up my gut feeling to take her to the vet - I wanted to but when I called in I got the feeling I shouldnt from the vet tech, but you guys were awesome, and I am so glad I did - I will have to get in touch with the breeder I got her from to see if perhaps she was a finicky eater, maybe that would account for her low weight, maybe she has been under some stresses lately - who knows, I dont blame her though - gliders are so super sensative and I think sometimes its really hard to know when your glider is sick until they are REALLY sick - I think the move today just pushed her over the edge so to speak -
well it will be a very restless night tonight - not much sleep over here I can tell you that now I will be up worried all night long I am sure
When I went to the vet they gave her sub Q fluids and instructed me as to how to feed her to build up her strength - she also told me I could put a heating pad on very low heat underneath the cage itself and the pouch is now on the floor of the cage as she is so weak she cant even climb up the cage bars to get up into the pouch, I put some HPW mix and carrot sliced very thin and scrambled eggs all sprinkled with reptical or whatever its called you know that vitamin stuff and put some water in a little Gerber baby food lid so she can reach it on the floor of the cage without possibly drowning herself - now all I can do is pray and hope she gains some strength
Thanks so much for responding all of you that did - I SO appreciate it - I should never have doubted myself - next time I will just go to the vet - not even call them first other than to say I am on my way - lol anyways - thanks again everyone! you guys ROCK!! I will keep you up to date as to how Marilyn is doing - I am hoping if she pulls through the night she will hopefully be OK she did start to nibble on some of the scrambled eggs I gave them, so fingers are crossed!!

| Hey there - thanks so much all of you for your support - yes they did a fecal and that was negative for anything there - just had some diahrea was all - her weight and dehydrated state was my chief concern - she only weighs 53 grams - oofta mia I gots to fatten her up! There was nothing in the fecal to indicate why she was having diarhea either I asked the vet that - and she said it was probably due to the stress of everthing going on so hopefully she will calm down and settle in and fell better soon
Thanks so much for the wonderful words and thoughts and prayers and everything you guys are so awesome and supportive!
She is doing well now - ate some scrambled eggs and looks like some HPW mix too when I wasnt looking - lol I am trying to keep it quiet and stress free in there - lol she is still pretty scared of me, so Im trying to keep my distance but still want to know how she is doing all the time - tricky thing to do- lol
Well thanks again! April (and Marilyn Monroe! yep thats what I named her - her twins name is Norma Jean and thier hubby's name is Joe Dimaggio - lol cute huh?)

| FYI, if the girls are any relation to the babies I got from that breeder (assuming it's the one we talked about!) they could just be small gliders. My babies are perfectly healthy but tiny compared to the rest of my gliders! Lol. My girl is almost a year old and only weighs about 68 grams but is in perfect health - just has a very small body structure. I'm so glad you brought her to the vet & she's doing all right now. Stress can also have an effect on her eating and drinking, as well as the diarrhea. *hugs* Hope she starts doing better really soon! | |

| OH ok sounds good - I didnt realize that gliders could be that light and still be considered healthy - she is doing much better today - still pretty weak but when I looked in the cage today almost all the food I put in there was eaten up - so her and her sister made little piggies of themselves - which is a good thing - ha ha I am very hopefull that everything will be ok -yeah I think it was just the stress of everything and diarhea is very easy to miss sometimes with gliders as well as eating habits when you have more than one in a cage as far as who is eating what and everything, so I totally dont have any quams against the breeder whatsoever - she has a stellar reputation, so I totally give her the benefit of the doubt, Im positive she didnt intentionally sell me a sick glider or anything like that, was just one of those things you know? But yeah I think and hope we are out of the woods time will tell - I have kind of been leaving them alone as much as possible to alleviate stress, but I did touch the pouch and heard two distinct crabs lol so she is still kicking in there - ha ha Im just hoping that Marilyn got alot to eat last night and that Norma Jean didnt hog it all, but I gave them quite a bit of food, so hopefully everybody got enough - 1 1/2 Tablespoons of HPW, 1 scrambled egg, about maybe not quite 1/4 cup of torn up chicken and a little bit of shredded carrots - the eggs were pretty much gone so was the chicken and the HPW so its good they ate the high protien stuff thats what she needs the most Again I wanted to say thank you so much to all of you for your kindness and empathy and help yesterday - I was scared out of my mind quite literally and everyone who emailed me or posted here was of great help!!! Thanks SO much! April | |

| Update on Marilyn: she is still extremely weak - she can crab though so that is good I guess - lol
both her and her sister ate all the food I gave them last night and it was quite a bit, I tried to leave them alone today - which was torture - I was a worry wart all day thinking about her worried wondering if she was still ok - ect ect.
Tonight when I fed them I actually put the HPW mix right near the opening of the cage pouch and they both stuck thier little noses out and had a few licks - was so precious, I would say Marilyn is still as weak as yesterday however she was out of the pouch and on top of it and got her nail stuck on the cotton fabric and couldnt get it free, was so sad to watch her struggle - she is still far too weak to climb up the cage bars or anything so the pouch is still on the floor of the cage, the heating pad is working nicely, its very little heat, but enough you can feel it, very simular to being in a bra or like body heat, hopefully that will help - tomorrow going to call the vet to see what else if anything I can possibly do for her
Still hoping and praying she will make it through

| If she is getting her nails stuck on the pouch and struggling to get free - TRIM HER NAILS. She can break a toe or rip out a nail that is snagged. That would be a lot more stress on her than quickly snipping the tips of her nails. | |

| thanks Candy - I did actually do that right after I saw she was having difficulty and kept getting stuck, it was pretty easy really with her being so weak - her sister however was a bit of a stinker got a few good bites in on me - lol, it seems to have helped, I was mostly just commenting on it to show just how weak she was/is
Thanks April | |

| How is she doing now April?
She may very well be a smaller glider, but be aware too that if she is, you will have to monitor her very closely for illnesses, as at her size she doesn't have much weight she can safely lose. Once she is good and hydrated, that should put a few grams on her as well.
It sounds like she is on the road to recovery, I would take her back for another fecal in a few weeks just to be on the safe side. Giardia is persnickity and hard to diagnose since it can go dormant and is only detected if it's actively shedding at the time a sample is taken.
Sorry I missed your post at the beginning, I've not gotten much online time these days.

Agreed. I know I have to keep a closer eye on the weight of my smaller ones as they can not afford to lose nearly as much as my chunky monkeys.
